Skype to PBX strangeness...
Hello All,
I wanted to share a strange Skype incident that happened to me lately. I was just on a call to a New York number when the person on the other end heard " modem sounds" and suddenly we were talking to the opposite ends of what sounded like a different Skype call. Out of nowhere I was listening a Indian sounding software engineer manger type guy who could not hear me, talking about a presentation the company was making. Ironically he said he did not want to do all the talking at the presentation while completely monopolizing the conversation. Meanwhile the person I was talking to could both hear and speak to the managers subordinate. Once the programmers ended their call, the call I was on was also terminated. I have never heard of this before and the crossed line may have happened in the PBX of the major company I was calling. But if that is the case then why the modem sounds AND why was our call terminated by the end of the programmers conversation? I know that all Skype calls are encrypted from end to end but how about Skype out calls? I was running Skype 1.3 (ish) on a G4 running 10.3.9. I have since updated to 1.4 the newest Mac version of the Skype Client.

Welcome!

This community is for English speaking users of Skype and other VoIP applications to talk to people and make new friends. It is also to discuss issues with Skype and other VoIP programs and hardware like sound cards/headsets/microphones, etc.

The primary motivation for the creation of this community is that, until now, there are no other Skype communities on livejournal where English speaking users could meet and make new friends and discuss issues related to Skype and VoIP, because all of the other Skype communities, at the date of this writing, are primarily populated by speakers of Russian or other closely related Slavonic languages.

People who are not native English speakers are welcome, but the lingua franca of this community is English. Every post must be in English, and if you post something in a language other than English, you must provide an English translation. By all means, don't be shy! Come on in and meet friends to practice your English with!

This is also not intended to be an "alternative lifestyles" Skype community, for people who are looking for phone sex or just trying to hook up. I'm not going to play internet police in here and tell you you can't go looking for those things, but I'd like the posts in this community to be safe for families/teenagers to view. As such, please put all "personal" or "in search of" ads, as well as posts that involve derogatory language, behind a cut tag.

Posts that contain more than one picture or nudity/other material inappropriate for underage viewers should also be placed behind a cut with a clear warning as to the subject matter given.

Please keep all posts on topic. The whole purpose of this community is for English speaking Skype/VoIP users (or those who want to learn/improve their English by finding English-speaking pen/phone pals)to meet, chat, discuss issues, and have fun! What you do after that is entirely up to you!

Obviously, these rules will evolve as needed.

This community is maintained by me, Mike infinitedomain, and my Skype name is heroofcanton

Bonus points to anyone who can tell me where that name came from. :)
